Even More Good Things About Playing Guitar

Why You Should Experience The Joy

You deserve to stop worrying about other things, sit down and play your guitar.

Here's some stuff that happens when you do:

People get to know you. When you play you can "give" something extra to everyone that you play for. Your music and performing is a huge part of YOU that people couldn't otherwise see if you didn't play for them.

Giving back. This is what you're giving when you play a song for someone:

  • Your time and attention
  • Your talent
  • Your emotions
  • Your style
  • Your vulnerability and willingness to put yourself out there.

If you wrote the song, then you're giving so much more; you're giving your personal expression and a glimpse into you and your world, and how you feel about it.

Conflict resolution. Yes, believe it or not. Music can bring people together and help them reflect, and possibly work out the differences they might have. Music is a universal language. Connecting with people is what music is all about.

Feeling appreciated. People enjoy and benefit from your music. If you play your guitar, you are highly appreciated and sometimes admired. People feel automatic warmth towards you.

Therapy and rehab. Music can be positively therapeutic and is helpful uf used towards rehabilitation of some types. For instance, trying to remember a familiar song and singing along with improves memory. Music is powerful and calming.

Life is better. Music picks you up when you're down, takes you away from your problems, and makes your life better. I can change my negative thoughts to a positive by listening to the right song, and I can bring back favorite memories with a favorite song.

Frustration release and anger therapy. On the flipside, I can bang out my frustrations with the right song and feel a release that can be much needed. It's better directed and played out on my guitar, than to take it out on a person, ya know.

Your children. Picture this. When you're daughter turns 8 and you volunteer to be a co-leader of her Brownie Troup, you've gotta come up with something to do at the end of each meeting. Why not Kumbaya? Kids love it. Parents love it. Grab your guitar and everyone settles down, sits in a circle, holds hands and sings.

A guitar is an easy instrument to learn, and very versatile. Whatever type of music is your favorite, you can learn to play it on your guitar.
