There are fifteen guitar chords that I recommend you learn first:
A A7 Am B7 C C7 D D7 Dm
E E7 Em G G7 F
These are the easiest chords to learn, and you will be able to play simple chord progressions in many easy songs.
Practice these chords every day, and over time your left hand will "remember" the various chord shapes.

Generally an open guitar chord is a chord with at least one open note (not fretted), and placed low on the guitar neck for ease of play, with as few fingers as possible.
The open chords "ring" out because of more vibration.
Open guitar chords are usually the easiest chords to learn for beginner guitar players.
Basically there are "major" and "minor" open chords:
Major chords consist of the root note and intervals of the major third and the perfect fifth. Major chords have a bright, happy sound.
Minor chords consist of the root note and intervals of a minor third and the perfect fifth. Minor chords have a dark, sadder sound.

Power chords are used by rock guitarists and guitar players that prefer a more powerful sound and a shape that's easy to move around.
Power chords are good for a fast chord change, or playing with the distortion effect.
A power chord has 2 or 3 notes and consists of the root note and the fifth degree, and can contain another root note (the octave) in addition. The power chord is missing the third degree, which normally determines whether the chord is major or minor. This makes power chords fit with either a major or minor scale.
Power chords are named from their root note, and then a "5" - indicating the fifth whole step up.
Example: G5 = root note G, plus D.

OPEN POSITION POWER CHORDS
The most common open-position power chords are E5, A5, and D5. Notice that the power chords are just the lowest notes of the normal open E, A and D chords.
MOVABLE POWER CHORDS
Also note that movable power chords are just the lowest notes of the normal movable barre chords.
